    Hi everybody,

I want to know if there is a chess society in maynooth. I have loads of spare time on my hands and I'm not really into socialising. I'd rather play chess with like minded people. Can anyone point me in the right direction?

    Thanks

There was one a few years ago I think, but I'm not sure about now. Get in touch with Naoise (vpcsud@nuimsu.com) in the SU and he will let you know! If there isn't one, you can always set one up.

Is that the same Naoise who is president of the Lesbian Gay Bisexual Society?

No, he's the Vice-President for Clubs, Societies and Union Development within the Students' Union.

As far as I know there is no chess society, but I'm also a big fan of chess. (I'm alright, but not great!) I'd be willing to bring in my board and have a few games at some point with anyone who wants a game, if that's not too weird.....

If your creating a chess playing group in Maynooth, make sure you make it a club rather then a society.
    As
    A) Chess is seen as a sport
    B) We could have inter-varsity Chess then
    C) You might actually get some useful amount of capitation money

I'd be up for some chess, I really need to improve my game.

Game Soc do boardgames every Tuesday.
AFAIR they have a few chess boards in their lockers, so if asked, they can dig them out.

Ya thats ridiculous. They've never played a proper game of chess in their lives.

The library would be a good spot for some chess I think. . . pretentious much?

I'd probably give it a go, if it was set up. I like chess and I haven't really been able to work up some interest in myself for the other societies/clubs. Maybe I'm just lazy. ;)

good to see that Ireland is behind the curve as usual.

there campaign might have some traction if they actually put some details of say who decides what is a sport and for what reason and who should you contact about it.... you know... the usual stuff.

GamesSoc runs board games on Tuesdays in JH5 from 7pm until 10pm. I'll make sure our chess sets are brought up from the locker next week. Hope to see some new faces! :)
