Coming back to running after injury

    Hey.

Sorry if this thread gets closed down, I know the issue about barefoot running comes up every month or so, but the threads don't seem to end in any general consensus, afaik.

Basically, I'm getting a cast off next Friday after breaking my ankle. I've been in it for about 6 weeks, and a week and a half injured before that. (it was around Christmas). If really freaked me how easy it was to break, really easy. I didn't tear ligaments or anything, it was my fibula I broke, so I think that means I can come back stronger on it, I hope.

What I'm wondering is if I could have avoided it by practicing barefoot running? I will basically have to start from the start with running again. I thought it was just a bit of a gimmick before this. I ran roughly 5-10k a week. and about 2 weeks before had bought a new pair of New Balance, based off the support they offered in the heel. But looking at them, they have soo much padding in the heel, that cant be good.

    My few questions...

    1. Does anyone run in these full time, do they get much millage out of them in a week. Would they use these to run races, or go back to supported shoes for race day.

    2. Do barefoot runners (veribram or whatever) improve joint support? I thought it was only meant to help with shin splints etc, but after how easy my ankle broke, I'm starting to think it might have been a bit weak to begin with. Would this help me avoid another ankle breaking in the future (I'm going to be soo paranoid now Id say:()

    3. Does anyone with experience with these suggest only running on grass, is running on path with these particularly difficult. I didn't wear converse before cause I couldn't walk in them comfortably because there was no support in them.

    Thanks in advance
