You'll have to book both the practical driving test and the CPC practical test. There are two types of practical driving test
    • C1 - vehicles with passenger accommodation for no more than 8 people and having a design G.V.W. over 3,500 kg but not over 7,500 kg
    • C - vehicles with passenger accommodation for no more than 8 people and having a design G.V.W. over 3,500 kg
If you want to drive a 12,000kg truck then you'll require the C category. If you pass the C test it will automatically entitle you to the C1 category also.

Yes. I'd recommend going for the C as it gives me more freedom with regards to Jobs etc...

Howdy. I assume that one can just take the C practical driving test in a suitable wagon, and get a C license without bothering with any of the CPC stuff if you don't intend to drive professionally. Would that be right?

Yes, If you're not going to drive professionaly for a living then you don't need the CPC.
