Fiat scudo jtd stalling prob

Hi, I've a 2001 fiat scudo 2 liter jtd (common rail)
When accelerating with any vigor it cuts out and a warning light comes on (dagnostics read it as fuel pressure sensor)
Changed the sensor on the fuel pump but still no luck.
Now i'm not up on common rail's at all but i'm guessing it's either the fuel pump or the fuel rail thats giving me this prob, is there anyway for a complete amateur like myself to diagnose,
Would I be better going to a normal mechanic or a diesel specialist that can referb the parts if needed.
    Thanks

I'd start looking at the air mass meter as these give trouble on JTD's

What was the exact fault code? It will not be as specific as fuel pressure sensor.

Could it be the inlet metering valve or is there a pressure relief valve at the end of the rail thats at fault. Should be straight forward enough, any other codes?
If there is no other codes try changing the fuel filter and then the pressure relief valve if the problem continues.

wasn't me who put it on diagnostic but i'll get a lend of a reader and see what code it reads during the week.
cheers for the advice, i'll have a mess about if i can get out during daylight

fuel pressure sensor is located in the middle of the rail on the underside, the wires run down the front of the block and lead to a 3 pin plug in front of the radiator, this is a popular spot for the wires to break,so could be worth a look.

eventually got to the bottom off it after troubleshooting everything , it was a dodgy high pressure fuel pump, which in retrospect was fairly obvious :D

ah well, thanks for everyone advice
