McLaughlin to leave Ulster role

I see Brian McLaughlin will be taking up a senior role in the Ulster Academy. While this is no doubt difficult for him personally, I think he still has a huge role to play in developing future Ireland and Ulster stars. A massive appointment coming up for Ulster Rugby in terms of head coach, it could really push them towards being Heineken Cup contenders every year and will certainly do Ireland's chances no harm at all.

    Depends who his replacement is.

He'll do well in the Academy, as head coach he has seen the likes of Paddy McAlistair, Nevin Spence and Craig Gilroy become regular first team players and guys like Adam Macklin, Paddy Jackson and Luke Marshall have got plenty of game time as well, plus a few others. He's a good skills coach too so it's good news for the youngsters. I still feel a bit sorry that he won't be head coach anymore...but Ulster want to go down another route

What a crock of S**T. Humphreys has no shame. If it weren't for McLaughlin Ulster wouldn't be half as prominent in Europe. I know he comes out of it with a job but I think McLaughlin should have told them to go f**k themselves.

Maybe you need to go watch the video in the Ulster thread.

I think he is interested but I'm not sure if it is just paper talk that Ulster are interested in him.

I heard a bit of an interview with him on Off The Ball on Friday (about 8.20 if anyone wants to listen back) and he said he'd had no contact from them. The thing about the interview was it was more him saying he wanted a job than wanting the Ulster job. He came across as not knowing too much about them and got the name of the Pro12 league wrong as well.

Heh, ask Brian to quote the name of the Japanese league and he might be able to get a job there. ;)

Bit seriously, that wouldn't really concern me. Doubt Kirwin knew much about Japanese rugby before turning them into a team that could hold their head up high in the RWC and win the PN cup.
