Aer Lingus Boarding Card Printing Problem

Last Month - Jan - I was unable to print out the boarding card for my flight to Malaga. I contacted AL and they were not aware of any problem and emailed me the boarding cards.
Incidentally I tried to print them out on two computers with similar results - i.e. the window showing the boarding card 'tried to open' but failed to complete opening every time.
(In October/November I had no problem printing them out going to/from Malaga).
On my return journey from Malaga a few weeks ago I had the same problem but I got my daughter back home to download them and email them to me.
I am using Outlook v.9 and my daughter told me to download google Chrome and see what happens. It worked!
    The plot thickens.
I eventuially found out on the AL site they do NOT support Outlook v.9 only up to v.8 and they do support Google Chrome.
I decided to alert AL of the problem but am unable to locate any usable email address - only 0818 phone numbers.
Anyone out there have a usable email address.
    Thanks.

Sorry for not really answering your question but why are you using an email application/client to open your emails? Why don't you just get them from the source, ie from hotmail or Gmail etc? That's the standard way of doing it and what I believe would be the way of 99% + of users as well. It should always work that way.

When you say Outlook v9 and v8, do you mean Internet Explorer v9 and v8?

Hmm, hardly. Microsoft don't make outlook for no reason ;)

the window showing the boarding card 'tried to open' but failed to complete opening every time.

Could it be that popups were blocked? Usually there is also a link to download the PDF file and print from inside Adobe reader.

Well maybe but I don't see the point in Outlook unless it's a business and you are receiving hundreds of emails regularly.

For a private user I feel it would be much easier just to use Internet explorer or Chrome and get your emails that way.

My apologies guys - I meant IE ( not Outlook).

    phonypony says -
'Could it be that popups were blocked? Usually there is also a link to download the PDF file and print from inside Adobe reader'.

Good point but this wouldn't work either
    From to-days AL site:
Note: For Internet Explorer 8 users, if you keep getting brought to the redirect page, please press Ctrl and F5 together. We are working at resolving this issue.

Here you will find information regarding which browsers and plug-in software we support.

    Browser Requirements
The browsers that aerlingus.com support are:
    Microsoft Internet Explorer 6, 7 and 8
    Mozilla Firefox 3.0, 3.5 and 3.6
    Google Chrome 4 and 5
    Safari 4

Using older browsers, non-compatible browsers or disabling browser features, such as Javascript, cookies and SSL, may reduce site functionality.
AL don't make it easy to get the above info because one has to go to the 'Help' tab, then 'Technology Suggestions', then 'Browser/Security/ Plug-Ins'.
I have reasonable computer literacy but for those who don't they will be lost. AL do not make it easy for those of us who have IE v.9. And they acknowledge IE v.8 is causing problems.
(Thanks to my very computer literate daughter who told me try Google Chrome).
Meanwhile I would like to let AL know but there should be an email address to address this - I'm not going to waste my time phoning a 0818 number.

Chrome is by far the best browser, even surpasses firefox now in my opinion. I think we can all agree IE, no matter what version, is a steaming pile of s***e!!:D

    Thanks for all the comments.
Back to my original point - anyone have a usable and relevant email address so I can contact AL and alert them to the problems they are causing their customers!

    Thanks.

AL are not causing the problems. It is the end users who do not keep their computers up to date that is the cause.

IE8 was not released for Windows XP which still holds a massive market share.

Let them use firefox/chrome whatever. I don't see this as the airlines fault.

If EI want people to fly with them then they should make as easy as possible for them to book/print boarding cards, there is plenty of competition out there.

So an airline should be pandering to some old dear still using windows 98?

Said old dears should check out the system requirements beforehand.

I would argue that anyone who wants to do trade should pander to the most basic system available. However, that ain't gonna happen. You can usually bet though that almost all websites will work on a late version of IE so the AL situation does surprise me. I do find that some won't do work fine with IE. They tend to be sites for big unimaginative organisations like public bodies.
I use Firefox all the time for the addins like Adblock and find it brilliant except for printing. The solution is to install a PDF printer like PrimoPDF and print to that.

Windows XP still has between 34% and 47% market share, depending on which survey you believe.

Or maybe go fly with some other airlne, I know if that was the attitude that is what I would do.

    1.
Our Man In Havana - please note AL admit to causing their customers problems using IE8 and I quote -
'For Internet Explorer 8 users, if you keep getting brought to the redirect page, please press Ctrl and F5 together. We are working at resolving this issue'.

Our Man In Havana states -

For your info OMIH I have two computers using the following O/S -
Vista Home Premium Service Pack 2 and Windows 7 Home Premium.

The issue is not the O/S but the fact IE is unable to cater - by their own admission - for the CURRENT version of IE9.
The system requirements for IE9 are Windows 7 - (It was released to the public March 2011) and Windows Vista Service Pack 2. IE9 is the last version of Internet Explorer to be supported on Windows Vista.

Sorry to disappoint OMIH - I am not 'some old dear still using windows 98' and
you should check out what is being posted before yoou commit yourself.
    Have a nice day!

And again I ask, has anyone a relevant email address for AL?
    Many thanks in anticipation.

    Bridesteram.

Use a decent browser and you won't have problems.

Only people who know no better use IE.
