I tried balancing my radiators and I am getting somewhere...
the return balance valve to the cylinder is by 1 turn
the bypass valve by just under 1 turn
    - the rads nearest seem are still taking all the heat even though they are almost closed
    - the rads furthest will heat up but are now where near as hot as the others even though the LSV are fully open

any advice ? really need hot water and a hot apartment :(

The number of turns on the valves is non-relevant.

The meassured temperature on the outlet of the radiator is relevant.

So adjust the outlet temperature by closing or opening the valves.

When was the heating system overhauled the last time? An anual check by a professional is mostly recommended.
He/she will do the boiler maintenance and the balancing.

ok thing is i dont have anything to measure the outlet temp of the rads, i'm just going by touch on each pipe on the rads

i recently had work done on the boiler as a new pump was needed. It had been working great only for the water was not heating up as it used to so I was told to turn the return valve for cylinder and since turning that the balance to the rads has changed drastically. I cant seem to get it back to what it was.

The installer should be called back.

    Someone gave you bad advise.

Thermometers are available for very little, try the pound shop. Buy one with a flat sensor which has to be attached to a flat surface. If not available wrap an insulant (dry cloth) around the outlet pipe and the sensor.

Infrared thermometers are available from the DIY shop or the plumbing center or via mail order etc. from around € 30.- upwards. If you're planning to do the balancing every year yourself then the IR thermometer is a good investment.
