I asked this question on the three forum but was sent here after I found out that three have removed the feature, apparently you guys might be able to help me get it back by changing some settings. Anyway here is the original thread

hope someone here knows the answer. Cheers

    Having read your thread.
Do you have root ? And are you using the default Wifi hotspot app/setting ?

Does this work ? Root required.

no, only got the phone yesterday, havn't rooted it, how do i, why do i, and what are the risks?

apparently there may be a hidden apn :confused:which is stopping this, if i remove it, it should work. my girlfriend still gets it on her galaxy s2, can i just copy the settings from her phone or would they be different for the htc?

Its not a hidden app. 3 have removed the ability to tether on new contracts and upgrades.

i only got the phone yesterday, so my new contract shouldn't have kicked in yet, also, they still allow new contracts tethering on their galaxy s2/10.1 tab combos, so there must be a way to fix this, what are they doing to physically restrict it? and how can i change that?

They obviously can restrict it. Your upgrade has been registered and contract extended. Itd only take time for your plan to change if you changed it.

Aye, but if they can restrict it, surely I can unrestrict it. Just need someone who knows more about it to tell me how...

It is either a hidden process or a hidden apn ...or both. Maybe you can try to proxy over USB without rooting but I reckon you will have to root it to find out how the tethering is being restricted. XDA Developers forums is the place for the best advice on rooting.
