Monocouche - How does it hold up

    Hi,

Getting ideas for the exterior of the my new build and I have heard monocouche will be worth it in the long run if I spend now. I will have a 2400sqft 1.5 story build with grey limestone on one gable end. Hoping to put white/cream Monocouche on the remaining walls. The only person very negative to the idea is a plasterer I know who doesn't do monocouche. Can I get the views/expected costs of anyone who has had this sort of finish done(and hopefully able to comment on the long term quality).

Thanks in advance for any comments.

    Regards,
    Chris

    Anyone have it?
Anyone use white sand plaster even?

    Would be interested in responses

the Wxxxxr rend we are going to use has added €10 per sqM to be plastered and today I was advised that all of these can stain if a detail is not right and you get a dribble off something (even around windows sills you some times see a "dropp moustache" effect off the end where the water has runn off)

Might revert to sand and cement - and accept it will need a lick of paint every 5 to 10 years (or when she chases me to do it )

I saw some where on here that trees can be a source of green stains too, any experience of this?
We priced coloured render vs plaster and paint and there wasn't a huge amount in the difference.

And will you use white sand and cement or paint it? I heard due to the differences in the mixes that area's of the plaster can be a different shade if white sand is used.

For example if I use more or less white sand in in the 2nd batch that plaster will be a different shade when compared to the plaster used in the first mix.

Finding it very hard to get experienced answers when it comes to this.

Was a fave rendering during the boom and mad prices too. IMO weathers very poorly(discoloration, staining etc) and the surface chips/breaks easily making discreet repairs impossible. Doesn't pass the mustard.

Traditional renders (sand/cement etc) are much more durable and harder wearing.

The exterior of a certain upmarket Celtic tiger apartment development on Salthill's promenade is no advertisement for Monocouche.
