Summer 2012 ideas?

Right lads, I'm a 21 year old student trying to sort out what to do for the summer.
I'm on work placement till the end of July and fortunately I've got a paid work placement so I'm adamant that i'm not going to waste away my last summer sitting on my arse at home or go do more work before I go into my last year in college.

I was originally planning on going on a J1 with one of me friends but he's not going to have the money now i'm at a loss now of what to do.
The thing is most of me mates are kinda in the same boat and can't afford to go away or have commitments to uphold so i'm kinda going lone wolf on this.

What I'm basically looking for is, anyone who might have ideas on what to do or any places to go.
Or even if anyone has any ideas of something cheap that a bunch of people could do either, cause ya know your self I'd rather go away with me mates but if its not possible, then so be it!

I'm open to any suggestions for anywhere!

If you're an engineering or sciences student, IAESTE is a great bet.

Thanks, I'm actually studying computer science so this would have been pretty cool to look into, but it looks like applications are closed now for 2012.
    Thanks Anyway!

    Anybody else??

Just because I've been looking them up the past while - an intrepid tour?!

    Yay, another reply :)

Some of them tours look amazing, trying to pluck up the courage to go do it on your own is the hard part though!
Would love to go back to the states again so was also looking at http://www.trekamerica.com/single-travellers.html seems to be some really cool trips on there too!

Was looking at going around the end of july, but mmm......
Aaaaggghhhh, dunno what to do!
