Think i might challenge it, must be allowed some leeway to get change, especially since I came from another country.

But I dont know if north and south now swap vehicle registered keepers address's?

I'd start off with an appeal anyway - four minutes seems very short, and an appeal involves no risk and no cost to you.

Purely out of curiosity, why do you think being from another country would help? What exactly was the ticket for?

non display of parking ticket on street.
I had no sterling money on me. I parked, went to find an atm, went into a shop to get change, and returned to a ticket. And they want more business there? There were no shortage of parking spaces either, I didn't even challenge the 20 something year old, cause I knew there would be no point.

If the ticket was for not paying a parking fee, I assume being from foreign country is a great excuse, because to get local currency from ATM needed to pay parking fee, you must park your car first.

That sounds like more than four minutes to me?

I very much doubt they built their rules around the convenience of Free Staters, TBH.:)

Yeh me too, if I remember correctly they give you a 5 minute lee way to get a ticket so you couldn't have been just 4 minutes?

maybe it was, but what choice had I? park outside town, walk a mile to get change, walk back etc. Maybe the northern Ireland tourist board should erect a sign just outside town stating this is what must be done...

put the ticket in the green bin and forget about it.

A bit OT, but a friendly approach (without even a hint of a challenge) to the warden might well have done the trick if you actually saw them. It doesn't seem to work here, but it's worked for me in England, Scotland and the North.

I don't think it's specific to NI, surely its the same in any town or city with P&D parking? :)

Also, you can get NI currency in a bank or Bureau de Change in Ireland, I'm not sure if they'll give you change though so maybe that wouldn't have helped you anyway.

Just got a £60 fine in the post. But the question is...
Who gave them ( a different country ) access to my private data (address)
    held by Shannon?

    Possibly - Shannon ;)

I can't see anything strange with them giving out your address.

So if the role is reversed CiniO, (Irish parking ticket company) has access to NI registrations and address....
ok, lets go to a psni compound, take reg's, and find out where they live?????

This is a breach of data protection, Its a parking ticket, not an international threat.

The first thing I would do would be to state you have no knowledge and ask them for all supporting evidence, firstly that it is your car and secondly that you were not allowed to park as you did.

If they are able to provide that then their case falls flat. If they provide that then you appeal. Check out how often you can appeal. Don't forget that the person judging the appeal is most likely an uneducated oik so use the most flowery legalese you can.

If nothing else, if they sting you for £60 make them work for it.

I was just going to post when I found this. £30 Parking fine. I came back from a shop to find some Bloke in a bright red jumper! Taking pictures of my car. I said I didnt see the notices. Went to get change.

I was going to bin it. What can they do if I dont pay it. Does it multiply like M50 toll charges or just stay at 60£. A few threatening letters is probably all that will arrive. Let me know how you get on. Thanks

    Troll-on

    :rolls eyes:

It's a fair point - pay & display is used in many countries, ligertigon can't just dismiss NI as being some renegade state for using it. (S)he chanced it, got caught out and went on a rant as if NI was to blame.

Is Anan1 physically attached to you?:)

Those thanks appeared quicker than I read the post?

I had this happen this side of the border. I scanned the machine ticket with time stamp and the ticket from the warden and politely emailed the County Council explaining what happened. Ticket quashed.

Worth a try before going on the run.

Say that to the PSNI when they pull you over for your unpaid parking ticket.

my "rant" is not about pay and display. Its about data protection between the Irish authorities and a private company from another country. I think this is quite serious, as no criminal act was done.

Its about data protection between the Irish authorities and a private company from another country.

Firstly it is not another country, it is part of the same country under different arrangements.

Data protection is not for the purpose of allowing people evade parking charges. Pay up and stop whining.

    FYP :D

OP I've had several tickets from time spent in Spain, ignored them and have heard nothing since ! Car Rental company never passed them on or debited my card for them. They'll probably come back to bite me at some stage but for now I won't lose any sleep over it !

I don't see anything about data protection there.

HAs anybody any up todate information on this; Can the Northern Irish Authorities get your car details ?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 473 ✭✭ThreeLineWhip

    No.

    You won't hear anything.

Did Ligertigon not say that he had received the NI parking ticket in the post as his details had been passed across?

You probably will never hear anything about it, but you broke the rules - how was warden to know that you had just gone to get money? For all they knew, you had parked up and headed off to do 5hrs shopping, hoping to do it without buying a ticket.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 556 ✭✭✭ligertigon

The NI and southern councils exchange details. They can get your details and will post out a fine/ reminder, registered reminder etc. I never called their bluff beyond the reminder.......
