    Hi lads,

I'd like to get some opinions on what money I could look for for this car. Normally I would just use donedeal/carzone but since this would most likely be going to a breakers I'm finding it a little harder to determine an appropriate value
    • It's a 99 VM Golf 1.4 that has been off the road for over a year*
    • It was jump started and ran no problem last week
    • 129100 miles on it
    • Engine was reconditioned at 109890 miles
    • Timing belt done at 112000
    • Body work is in average condition
    • no nct and obviously no tax
    • On 17'' RS4 reps that are fairly badly curbed

*owner went abroad to TEFAL, but it has now turned into something more permanent, hence there was no attempt to sell before now

    Any advice would be appreciated

    Thanks

when i seen the thread title i was actually going to be a smartass and say get some rs4 reps for it and you'l be sorted. but you already have those, so your sorted, young lads will fcome from far and wide to buy it now! because a golf is the best thing since sliced bread.

realistically though, a 13 year old 1.4 pertrol golf with 110k on it (from what i've seen these cars seem lucky to make it to 100k alive) with no tax or test is a borderline finantial write off or at best a finantial tmebomb.

650-700 euro as is and be thankful for it.

Yeah the RS4 reps were on the car when he bought it, he was probably one of those young lads you mention at one stage :). Well, I can say that the car wasn't thrashed or anything while he had it, but since it's going to a breakers I'm not sure how much that matters

650-700 is in fact higher than I had thought, especially since it will have to picked up by a breakers

    Thanks for the advice

its a ballpark figure and i'm well open to correction. i certainly wouldn't send it to a breakers. somebody will buy it for more than a breaker will offer.

    just totting it up -

    NCT fee - 50

having been laid up for a year, lots of items will have had the chance to deteriorate. tyres, hoses, wipers, rubber bushings etc. so being favourable to the car lets say it fails the NCT on just 2 tyres and 2 wiper blades.

2x part worn 17's + balancing, tracking and fitting i would say the guts of 70-80 euro at least, then 2 wiper blades at 10 a pop. - theres 100 euro

    retest fee 30 euro

    3 months tax - 110 (i think)

and being laid up that long it would really be nice to do the oil and filters, so 50 euro for the parts asuming you can do the work yourself.

thats 340 after the initial purchase price just to get it back to a roadworthy/ legal state. a 99 golf with over 100k even with a new NCT i could only see being worth 1100 ish tops, so take one from the other and subtract another little bit to incentivise buyers :)

........ a breakers will only give you €150 for it max, less maybe if they are collecting it.

Why would you send it to a breakers? Its not scrap and I doubt it'll take much to put on the road. Put it up on done deal and price it around €750 and let it go for around €500. Someone will get use out of it.

OK, thanks for the advice everyone, very helpful.

Darokane, I've no pictures at the moment, but I'll take some at the weekend (the car's at my home place and I won't be there until then) and I'll send them to you if you're still interested
