    Hi all,

I posted last week about whether to ring up a company following an interview. I did so on Friday and they said they would ring me back i.e. in the next few minutes but I never heard since. Now I'm no better off since I rang. Now I don't know what to do, I don't want to ring again but on the other side I'm tempted. Opinions?

I replied to your other post.. and I'm still waiting! Will make follow up call today.
Regarding your question, it all depends I suppose on who you spoke to. What did they say? Did you talk to the hiring manager or was it the administrator / receptionist / Hr person?
If it was someone not directly involved in the decision making process call again. They probably had to try find out what was going on, or forgot

Spoke to receptionist and she said she'll get him to call back. I was hour standing beside the phone making sure it was in an area for reception!

Did you ring up for your position? The waiting is so distressful! :D

I emailed. A bit wussy,:D but they didn't seem like the type of people who would not get back to you either way, so I didn't want to be a pest.

I hate the waiting game. I felt so good about the interview but as the week passed that disappeared. I feel if they wanted me they'd call.

I'm thinking of the email route next! I really lost hope after not getting a call back after ringing but at this stage I'm just in hoping more than anything.

Good luck with getting a offer!

@ Sala, we are all human and no one has the perfect interview, if your feelings on the interview were good after you finished then the interviewer probably felt the same.

@ Carstuck, following up after an interview is important. Shows initiative and that you are enthusiastic. If you have an email address sent a thank you email to the interviewer and an enquiry at the end of the mail asking for an update.

    Best of luck!

I take it as they got back to you. Got a letter today confirming it's over, they didn't even ring. Good luck

Ha, same day and everything, were we going for the same job?!
I got a letter too, I don't think they ever call to say no. I'd hate a call to be honest as you might get your hopes up when you saw them calling

@sala & @carstruck - Ring the person who interviewed you back. You didn't get the job which is hugely disappointing (been there!), however, ringing back will do 2 things for you...

    1. You can ask the person directly what they felt your shortcomings were, was there an area they felt you didn't have enough experience in (all depends on what the position you were applying was for). Have they any advice for your interview technique etc. Keep it short & sweet though.

    2. You thank them for considering you and wish them well. This will ensure that out of the other 2/5/10/20 candidates they shortlisted for interview, that YOU will stick out in their memory should the person they did choose not work out for them, or should they be hiring again in the near future.

It's natural to feel crap after a refusal, and natural to feel nervous about doing this, but no-one will do it for you & you have nothing to lose!

    Keep your chin up!

BTW, if you need to go through a receptionist to get to your interviewer (i.e. they want to know why you're calling), simply say you want a very quick word to thank the person for their time etc.

Thanks Will, might ring up tomorrow and see.
