New Philips TV - Saorview ariel?

    :confused:Hi All,

Looking for a bit of advice on picking up saorview with my new Philips LED tv.

I currently have a FTA dish which works really well, this is routed to the TV via the loft. However, I used a combiner from satellite.ie to join the dish feed and the analogue aerial feed into the existing coax which is buried in the wall. I use another combiner to split the STB box feed from the analogue feed. This set up worked quite well, but I could've prob benefitted from somthing better than bunny ears in the loft.

I borrowed a 'one for all' amplified digital aerial to trial it with the new tv. It works well when it is raised about 5 foot above the tv and plugged in (with amp) directly to the tv. I'd like to fit it in the loft out of sight, but I don't have a power source for the amp.

I tried fixing it in the loft and using the amp straight after the combiner splits the feed to the TV & STB, but I get no signal at all.

Do I need to have the inline amplifier much closer to the aerial?

    Any other options?

    Cheers,
    R in Naas.

PS: sorry for the windy questions!

If the indoor aerial 'works well' as you describe, then it's reasonable to assume that you have decent signal strength at your location; put a proper 'outdoor' aerial in your loft, hopefully no need for an amplifier if you're only feeding 1 tv.

    Hi peter,

    Thanks for the reply.

My problem is that I tried my indoor amplified aerial in the lost, with the amplifier connected inline near the tv as this is the only place I have a socket to power it. It didn't work, no signal!

I'm wondering if the two combiners I have to feed the FTA signal and the terrestrial signal down from the loft and split it again behind the telly are causing problems with my amplified aerial?

At the moment the aerial is tucked up behind the curtain rail, works great, but if it stays I have a limited life span if you know aht I mean!!

    Thanks,
    R

The amplifier won't be doing any good at the tv end of the cable. If you want to persist with this setup, the amp will have to go in the loft between the aerial & the 1st combiner.

A decent aerial in the loft would be a much better idea.

    Hi I had A similar Probablem .
This I did vary the Power on the amplifier If possible.
Start of at a low setting gradually increases it.
    This should work.
    If Not Try this.
Get a Uhf aeral . Get an anolog Signal. As it easyer to get .

Once the signal on TV Is at 80% Strength and quality.
Go to tv an retune . It should then Pic up the Saor view and anolog
And Philps . Tv You have To select Uk For Country .
    Then It should work .
Dont Select Ireland as Wont Get the digital Channels
