Removing/improving scratched paintwork

There was some sticker residue on the back door of a car which was removed with fine grade (000) steel wool. The residue is gone but the paintwork is scratched .

Could it just be the lacquer? Does anyone know how to remedy / alleviate this?

    Thanks in advance.

Post a pic of the damage, it the lacquer is just marred the damage could possibly be polished out.

If you can feel it with your fingernail then its probably through to the base coat and needs paint
