I am looking to upgrade my 2011 Boardman Team Carbon which weighs in at about 7.9kg off the peg. I would like to find a Specialized SL3 Tarmac S-Works with DA or SRAM Red components, or maybe a Cervelo R3 in similar spec. The frame has to be carbon and measure no more than 530mm at the top tube. Nice to have would be 400mm bars, 170mm cranks, 34/50 compact, sub 7kg. Wheels are not important as I have a set of Zipp 404s. Pricewise I was thinking €2000 to €3000.
Just for reference I can get a 2012 Fuji Altamira 1.0 with full DA for €2800.

    Bring it on :P

The fuji sounds lovely to me tbh. Is that price with wheels?

Yeah I have to agree, the 39/53 chainrings are putting me off a bit, the wheels are nice looking but a bit low rent (ie heavy @ 1800g ish)

    Full Spec

Also I cant find a lot of reviews for the Fuji

Pretty impressive if the wheels are heavy and the build still makes under 7kg. Pretty exclusive too. Feck all fuji's around these parts. Any top spec road bike is going to be packaged as a standard double too. It's the entry levels they put the compacts on.

Seeing as it's new, you could always sell or swap the chainset couldn't you? And like you say you have the zipps for photo-shoots, the wheels it's bundled with will do you for... y'know.... cycling and stuff :)

Anyway, best of luck in your quest. I'm liking that fuji though. -Canyon might be worth a look

    -This http://www.canyon.com/_en/roadbikes/bike.html?b=2510
gets close to your asking. Dura ace except for the cranks

    Or this: yum :)http://www.canyon.com/_en/roadbikes/bike.html?b=2516

    Hi
Have you still got your boardman. I am building a new venge and funding it by selling my 2011 canyon ultimate cf slx evo size 50cm (geometry on canyon.com, top tube 529)which i built with a d ace 7900 compact 50/34 crank d ace cassette and the rest sram red groupset. Weighs 6.09 with lightweight ventoux's. Only top individually selected components eg: yokuzuna cables

I would be interested in part exchange as i could then use the boardman as second, training bike assuming it too is small ie similar size to canyon

    You interested ?

Hi Paul, the Canyon sounds interesting alright depending on price and condition.
I still have the Boardman but it is Medium, 545mm top tube. I am 5'5" with a 29" inseam and I find it just a little too big for me. I have a 50mm Trek 1.2 if you are looking for a training bike specifically, otherwise I can buy your bike without a trade in if the price is right.

    Hi

Pity about the boardman thank you for the offer re the trek but i already have a 2011 canyon ultimate al but find the carbon frame much more comfortable so will pass on the trek. At 545 the boardman would just be too big but again thank you for the offer.

Here is the detail on mine so you can consider it/review it. I am assuming as you have zipps you are only interested in frame/components not wheels

Frame: Canyon ultimate cf slx evo. 50cm
    https://www.canyon.com/_en/roadbikes/bike.html?b=2531
    Crank: DA 7950 50/34 170mm
    Cassette: DA 7900 11-25 or 11-28
    Chain: DA
    Shifters: Red
    Brakes: Red
    Rear der: Red
Front der: Force (red one did not shift perfectly this one does)
    Bars: Cinelli ram xl 40cm
    http://www.rutlandcycling.com/16133/Cinelli-Ram-XL-Handlebar.html
    Cables: Yokozuna
    Bottom bracket: Ultimate ceramic http://www.amorecycles.com/product.php?id_product=18
    Stem: Ritchey 90mm or 110mm.

    Cheers p

Only used this bike for dry best day rides minimal mileage (circa 750 -1000) on it, bike in perfect condition with the exception of scraped brake pad holder that a pal scraped when switching blocks.

Paul, thats a nice build. What saddle comes with that? I would like a wheel set with the bike but commuter quality would do me fine. The Zipps only make it out on nice days, they are not nice for fast desents on Sally gap with a 10m/s sidewind!! What price region are you thinking.

Sorry only saw your reply now, apologies for delay. No worries if you want wheels I have a brand new unridden set of 2011 black mavic ksryium equipes with conti gp4000 tyres on them (again not ridden) up in the attic (they came on m y other canyon) i could throw them in but would want 2,500 to include wheels and ceramic bb, cinelli bars etc. 2,200 with new ultegra BB (instead of ceramic one) and ritchey wcs bars instead of the cinellis.

    Cheers p

Duh forgot to answer your question re the saddle. I want to hang onto my saddle i went with a black selle italia slr with a cut out to finish it but they do not make that actual one now but could give you a white slr without cut out or spec toupe 130 i know neither would look good with the build and if it is a deal breaker then you can have the saddle but would rather hang onto it if poss. p

    Hi Paul,

The canyon is an unbelievable bike, my husband has one with dura ace in a 60cm. I'm considering buying a 50cm frame for myself but as I'm only 5ft 5inch I'm a little worried it may be too big for me. How tall are you and what frame size Venge are you building? The Canyon sizing on the website seems a little haphazard, with people on forums often buying the wrong sizes etc. I'm just trying to work out if a 50 will fit me and you're the first person I've seen on a forum that has an actual 50 cm carbon canyon.

    cheers Sal

    Hi Sal

I am 169cm or 5ft six and a half. I usually ride a 52cm frame with a top tube of around 535mm. However if you take some time to look at the canyon geometry page you will see that while the top tube of the 52cm is 533 (b in the drawing) the headtube is 14cm (c in the drawing). That was a little tall for me so I went for the 50cm solely because its head tube is considerably lower at 12.5cm. The top tube on the 50cm is 529 which is a little short but i overcame that by replacing the 90mm stem with a 110mm stem.

The seat post has 7 cm of adjustment with O being the lowest and 7 the top. I ride the 50cm with the post at 4.25 so while no body can fit you without seeing you I would be confident you would be comfortable on the 50cm with a 80 or 90 mm stem and the seat post somewhere between 1 and 3.

I assume you are only looking for help with sizing as opposed to potentially buying my bike so the info i have shared with you there is solely to help answer your question and help ease the worry associated with buying a frame blind online through canyon so feel free to ask if you need any more help with their website and sizing etc.

    Cheers p

    2011 Basso Astra in 56cms - Shimano Ultegra - 34/50 170mm Cranks Mavic Kysrium SL's - Michelin Pro race 3 -
    Blue/White

€1650 .. I can find out more if you are interested !

Might be too heavy for you but....!

@paul, I have been mulling over my options, i think at 2500 your bike is too close to a new Fuji or 2nd hand SL3 S-Works pricewise. But i do like the Canyon so here are my thoughts. If i keep my Boardman as a second bike then i wont need another set of wheels. So my question to you is, what price would you want for the bike without wheels, and fitted with ritchie bars and ultegra BB.

Just as an FYI, recently bought a SL3 SWORKS from www.kinetixproducts.com at an extremely competitive price. He definitely has more available and also has the SWORKS Amira frames available (women specific frame!)

Really nice guy to deal with and was able to offer some really sound advice.

Have no doubt that he'll have something to tempt you with :)

If you want more info feel free to PM me - but he's contact number is on the website.

Hi, are you selling that Trek 1.2? I'm looking for a bike for my wife so may be interested.

Yeah I still have the Trek, it is the 2010 model in as new condition. I doubt there is 1000km done on it. I have an offer of €450 on it but I was hoping to get closer to €500.

I got a Trek Madone 5.2 Pro frameset, I am going to build it up with a Dura Ace groupset and various 2nd hand carbon fibre parts that I have been collecting.
