Got my lamps in the post during last week. There 1970 EverReady bicycle lamps i got from eBay. Now to strip and paint the lamps for upgrade to LEDs and powder-coat in Gloss black.
I know there both front lights but a red filter should do the job for the rear.

Lamps taken apart as much as possible ready for a few small mods.
The hole in the concave mirrored reflectors and the hole through from the battery compartment has to be widened to accommodate the led cluster.

The LEDs are taken from a €8 B&Q torch. Also 2 AA battery holders on order from eBay.

    The LEDs in place

The lamps go a coat of Nitromors, The older one had a rough brushed on paint job so that came off but the NOS lamp that came with the box has paint the honeybager would be proud of. The Nitromors had no effect whatsover...they dont maken like they used ta.

    Primed

Looks really good, where did you get the powder coating done & how much did they charge? Did you strip it yourself or get them to do it?

I got it done in Tallaght Powder Coating just off the Walkinstown roundabout.

I handed it in, they sand blasted, acid dipped/stripped and then static charge powder coated, then oven baked. Very quick.
All in €90...i could have saved more if i had additional bits to do in the same colour.

Right so after 5 attempts at painting the lamps are done. Everything that could go wrong did go wrong. I couldn't find a Red tinted lamp so i used a lens form this Raleigh chopper one (Apologies Raleigh Chopper Fans). It looks the wasps ankles. I got the Sealed Cottered BB in, yes sealed. messed up the pins but second time round i got them in there. Chain and freewheel also fitted and flat pedals.

    Lamps finally painted.

    photo-29.jpg

    Sorry :(

    photo-30.jpg

    Not Really :)

    photo-24.jpg

    So far....

    photo-25.jpg

    Sealed BB...Had to get one.

    More soon.

Oh and any leads on a frame mounted front tray / carrier are welcome. With the front stand would be the business.

I suppose I'm nitpicking (fantastic job btw) but pedals like these would suit better

Yea very true. Are you selling ???. I do intend to get the proper ones. This bike will be as true to from as possible but i do want to do a few personal tweaks. She was a right state when i got her.

    Any link for the pedals?

I've a set or original Raleigh ones but there reserved for a restoration of a Raleigh Tourist for the summer :)

However, google MKS 3000R for a sutiable replacement.

SJS Cycles used to have them

A nice sprung brooks would be great looking too

I picked up a sprung brooks saddle for my hybrid for €67, which was cheapest I could find after much searching. So comfy. Brooks bar tape seems quite expensive at €39, and with another €10 for postage you could escape just €116 lighter. About €150 direct from Brooks.

Love what you did with the lights by the way. Great job!

+ 1, as recommended by BX 19, above pedals would be perfect, if outside the budget.

Consider also 'Union Block Rubber 685 Pedals' or '9/16" Retro Classic Raleigh Pedals'. To pick up cheaply would need to have friend/relative travelling over & back to UK or USA.

    Available to buy online at:

    http://www.amazon.co.uk/16-Retro-Classic-Raleigh-Pedals/dp/B002LXLVKW/ref=sr_1_9?ie=UTF8&qid=1338590334&sr=8-9

Easier to source & reasonably priced would be 'Wellgo LU868 Pedals' - great quality, tough, rustproof, with serviceable bearings. They came fitted as standard on classic (Dutch style) Gazelle (click on link for photo) bikes of the period. Available from:
