    Hi quick question
Just doing my PAYE anytime tax claims online for Refuse and Medical expenses etc and there is also an option to claim for PAYE tax credits and personal tax credits... What are these? Can I claim them? Will it effect my tax etc if I do?
Sorry if its a silly question, but really have no clue when it comes to this and no one I have asked seems sure what the story is with them.

    Thanks in advance

They are the standard credits pretty much everyone gets at the start of every tax year when you are employed. They along with your standard rate band, are used by your employer, to determine how much tax (if any) you pay through the year. Just read your tax credit cert for this year or any year and they should be on there.

By the way, the PAYE anytime site is colour coded, anything in green is something you have already claimed, anything in blue is something you may be able to claim and anything in grey you cannot claim. Just watch the instruction videos before you login.

    Hi,

I have never claimed tax credits before and I went onto PAYE anytime to fill in my medical expenses. Last year I got braces and had a few doctors visits so I added that into the system. I was lead to believe that I get 20% back from the money I paid for my braces but it seems that I have received the full amount including the amount I added in for my doctors bills. I thought when you add in your amount it calculates it for you and that's what you get back. I am not sure if the money I have received is correct or should I have worked out the deductions myself and added that amount in instead? If anyone knows how this works could you let me know if what I did was correct.

    Thanks
