UPC box not responding to remote.

A couple of times a week my UPC dvr box will just ignore any input from the remote. The first few times it happened we were looking through our recordings when it seemed to hang, so I thought maybe the hard drive was on it's way out. (Batteries were obviously the first thing eliminated). Then I discovered that it's still perfectly responsive to the buttons on the box itself. It has since happened plenty of times while just channel surfing. I have two UPC remotes and a Logitech Harmony and it can act the same with any of them but will always respond to the front panel buttons.

Any experiences of this issue on here, or fixes?
Do I just get on to UPC, let the CS rep follow their flowchart and eventually get the box changed?

    TIA.

Happens to me every so often. I just unplugged the box from the mains, waited 30 seconds approx then powered it back up again. Give the box a minute to initalise and it should respond to the remote once more. I have no idea why UPC boxes tend to become unresponsive to their remotes but the above should help.

I had issues and rang them up, they were about to issue me a new remote and they asked me to do what I thought was a stupid test, and I was very surprised when it worked.

They asked me to select tv and power off the tv, then select the upc button and keep an eye on the channel display and change channel, it did easily where as before it wouldn't respond. I then turned the tv back on with the upc remote and selected upc again, and the remote was fine.

Anytime it doesn't work I do the above and its fine again, totally illogical to me that it fixes it but it does (for me anyhow).

Something similar here. I had the digital box under the tv and they told me to move it. problem solved!

My brother in law had a weird issue with his UPC. In one of his rooms the remote would only work at random times. Thought batteries but it worked perfectly with other box. Strangely the remote from the other box had problems with original box.

Turned out they had bought a new lamp and whenever it was on the problem arose. Changed the bulb, which I think was energy saver, problem solved. Never happened again. Not sure how the other remotes acted.
