Both fighters want the fight it's all up too management now.

Simular height, reach, conelo prob be abit heavier.

2 fast, heavy handed fighters. great match if ye ask me !

big test of alverez and if he beats him he'l rise too the top.

IMO i think mosley will beat him if not KO him

but hes 40 now and you'l never know how he'l preform

if it was prime shane i'de be much more confindent ;)

I think Shane Mosely is a shot fighter and even though I would like him to, I don't think he can do it. Hes not even 50 percent of the fighter he used to be judging on his last few outings.

Been shot now several years. This will be a mauling.

mosley beats him if mosley was in his prime or close to it

mosley is so far past his sell by date at this stage it's not a credible fight imo

i'd expect alvarez to bully him and stop him late or by wide points defeat

I'm afraid you're blinding by fanboy love for Shane. This is a lamb to the slaughter, Shane's on the way out and no where near the Shane we all know and love, and Canelo is far stronger, fresher than him.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,017 ✭✭✭colly10

I loved Mosley as a fighter (although I was disguised with his performance v Pac) but Mosley is far too shot to be taking this fight.
Canelo just has far too much energy and work rate for him now. I think he's tidy enough that he won't be caught flush and finished off by Mosley either.
Don't think 154 is a great weight for Mosley either.

I can only see this one going 1 way

It's a step up for a Alvarez but should be no problem-Shane still has power so Alvarez might have to get on his toes a bit more as he takes punches too easy-I see only 1 winner but Alvarez needs to be moving up and is starting to do that now. Alvarez is the next big thing and this could be the start of his fame

I don't see Shane even having much of a punchers chance here. Canelo is a strong lad, big lad, fit lad. He also takes a good shot.

Alvarez doesn't strike me as a man who'll show Mosley the same compassion Manny showed him either. For the first time in his career he'll be stopped and it'll signal his retirement.

mosley doesnt have half the power of cintron and canelo handled cintrons power easily.....a 40 yr old mosley at 154lbs is a bad idea against canelo

mosley had the smarts to frustrate pacman with angles......he won't be able to do this with canelo as canelo has a good boxing brain

Mosley is gonna get hurt, hopefully not big time.

Little bit harsh on Canelo ,.... but yeah , he will be probably get stopped late.
Mosley is going to get stoppage this time

Fixed up your post for ya .

Should be entertaining while it lasts.

    How so?

Mosely looks shot but Alvarez is seriously overated on this MB. I find him slow and methodical. If he fought Shane of a few years ago he gets KO'd 9/10.

I think so too. It's just too bad Shane Mosley is just another fighter who doesn't know when to call it quits

I really like Canelo though. Find him a solid all rounder. Hes incredibly strong also..really packed in well at 154lbs. On strength and physique alone id prefer Mosley not to take this fight. He's had a great career but should have retired after Mayweather. Ive got huge respect for Mosley and in his peak he was one of my favourite fighters.

Agree that a prime Mosley and Canelo are not near the same class. I don't think people here are really rating Canelo all that highly, it's just that most believe Mosley has nothing left, he doesn't even have the same heart

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,035 ✭✭✭Wild_Dogger

If he fails to step up against my #1 fighter - Sugar Shane, then I hope he takes on:
My #2 fighter - James Kirkland,

Kirkland is just an evil guy ...... just a ruthless fighter who comes with serious bad intentions.

A nasty piece of work......... I like him :)

Whats not to like. Convicted armed robber and all.

The mans a coward who thinks he's tough. Better fighters will make a mockery of him like Ishida did.

Canelo Alvarez is a beast-a very rough diamond it must be said but if he can polish up a bit i expect him to be the new big kid on the block.

Peak Mosley was good enough to be considered a hall of famer so not really fair comparing an up and comer with a legend of the sport till the later stages of his career.

There's no doubt about flaws in his arsenal......
However he corrected that in his fight with El Perro.
There's nothing cowardly about him, he is tough.
He's got murder on his mind - tyson without the fame

Alvarez is rated extremely high due to his future potential, not his current state!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 655 ✭✭✭marvsins

Some of the comments in here are bizarre. Saying a 21year old on the up would be beaten by a prime Mosley is slightly mental and is pointless. Going to be a great night of boxing. Floyd on points and Alverez by TKO with Mosley just sitting in the chair out of gas.

can't you lie on your side or sumfing ........... :)

Marvsins ......... Mosley in his prime was THE p4p #1 in the world, by some margin..... people forget that cause there wasn't so much sky sports and internet activity back then.

    Canelo dosent compare

As I said earlier, Alvarez is still only 21.

Come back in 15 years time and we'll compare them prime VS prime then.

    ok , I'll be back in 2026 ..........

still think Canelo is taylor-made for Mosley.

    Can't wait..........6/1 ? going to make a fortune off this one ;)

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 956 ✭✭✭RiseToTheTop

Do you guys think Alvarez when he reaches his prime will be as good/better than Mosley in his prime?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,035 ✭✭✭Wild_Dogger

No way , he's a money backed artificially promoted fighter .
He's getting it all handed to him .

He's far too slow for a 21 year old...

Just watch Mosley take this kid to school

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 561 ✭✭✭minty16

I never said Mosely of a few years ago beats Alvarez, I said he KO's him 9/10. Different point and certainly a valid/debatable one. Also Alvarez had had 40 odd fights! Shane was beating Oscar after less! Ok so I understand people are talking about 'potential' but I still think his potential is overrated. Would still love to see Alvarez-JCC Jr.

I don't see Alvarez as a fraud at all, I can't see him ever being as good as a prime Mosley though. P4P I don't see him becoming as fast and powerful as Mosley was. I don't see his skills reaching the same level either although I wouldn't totally rule it out

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 57,378 ✭✭✭✭walshb

Alvarez is a bigger man than Mosley was at the same age, and considrably so. Apples and oranges here. Let Alvarez keep developing and improving. As for technique and fluidity with the hands, Saul is very neat and skilled, every bit as proficient as any vesrion of Mosley at Mosley's younger years.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,447 ✭✭✭barney4001

At 40 Im sure Mosley has had his day i am hoping for a win for the younger man at 21 he has it all in front of him

    No ..... just No !

Am I missing something about Canelo ? I just dont see the same things that you all see in him .

The only thing I see when I look at Canelo , is that he is absolutely massive for his weight.

Cant see the speed , cant see the superior skill .

Im expecting 7/1 on Mosley by fight night .
    I'm on it alone ..............

    Rich I tell thee ...... RICHHHHH :p

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,430 ✭✭✭megadodge

Can you genuinely not see the skill?

    Are you just anti-ginger? :D

This kid has some beautiful moves. Little feints, beautiful selection of punches, all of them thrown very technically correct and usually in combination.

So what if he doesn't have Roy Jones speed. Very few do. He's no slower than Julio Cesar Chavez and he certainly didn't have a bad career.

You see no fluidity, movements, synchronicity and text book punching? He throws beautiful smooth and clean punches. Very composed, balanced and has great tempo and rhythm in his boxing. Shane was very good, but to me, not as naturally relaxed or fluid when committing to attacks.

In simpler terms, he looks like a boxer! Certainly punches and moves like one. As for speed, he's JMW, apart from the likes of SRL, Oscar and Hearns, there were many very good JMW men that were not blessed with pure speed. Mike McCallum, Julian Jackson, even Winky Wright and Tito were far from speedsters. And, this "lack" of speed hasn't affected him yet.
