New and old, everyone, at some stage, looks to have their team rated, to either boast or look for some genuine advice. So, rather than have it poping up in several threads, I thought we could post in 1 dedicated thread, where you can comment on your own team, help others out, ask random questions, etc.

From the head to head league thread, there are some new players to the game, so I'm sure they will find it helpful to have guys/girls that have played the game before offer some of their advice/experience.

To make it easier to read, the following is a suggested layout that might be copied/pasted. Alternatively a screen capture might be nice.

    TEAM NAME: I<3WCE
    DEF: A. Player, A. Player, A. Player, A. Player, A. Player, A. Player, A. Player (A. Player, A. Player)
    MID: A. Player, A. Player, A. Player, A. Player, A. Player, A. Player (A. Player, A. Player)
    RUC: A. Player, A. Player (A. Player, A. Player)
    FWD: A. Player, A. Player, A. Player, A. Player, A. Player, A. Player, A. Player (A. Player, A. Player)
    CASH LEFT: $999,999

The Kippax (Version 1.0). Side picked on the basis of Multi-bye rounds 11, 12 & 13, with the minimum numbers of trades (6) to avoid a doughnut in each of the rounds.

The Kippax (Version 2.0). Side picked on the basis of pre-bye fixtures, increased salary cap & Multi-bye rounds 11, 12 & 13, with the minimum numbers of trades (6) to avoid a doughnut in each of the rounds.

Much prefer the top team mate, although your carrying a lot of cash on the bench and I won't be picking Lake personally.

    Interesting ruck strategy also.

A few things for me -

    - I won't be going near Goddard for at least a month, he killed me last year.
    - Hayes has an old body coming off the back of a reconstruction, dodgy.
    - Not sure of your thinking behind the rucks only that you don't see them as offering value. I'm the opposite and Cox is a must have again IMO.
    - Wouldn't touch Lake with a barge pole.
    - Will Tommy Walsh actually see decent game time?
    - Needs more Eagles midfield.

My backs and mf are similar to V1.0, no Lake either but he's well priced if he gets gametime. Have Giles as 3rd ruckman at mo with Cox and Smith. Have a good few placeholders in my team and it will change a lot after NAB cup, particularly when see how GWS boys fair, so might hold off on posting it for few weeks...

Rucks strategy is to accomodate the multi bye round. 1/1/1 RUC with 1/1/1 RUC/FWD (R11/R12/R13). However I will be most likely be starting with Cox and downgrading to Lycett in R10 to take advantage of Cox/McEvoy combo. This set up will leave me with a full 22 + emergency cover for R11-13, whilst accomodating upgrade targets like Rockliff, Swan, Deledio, Martin, Conca, etc.

With Ross Lyon out and Scott Watters in, the Saints should see a more DT friendly game this year, similar in style to the Hawks last year. Double this with the best pre bye fixtures makes Saints players very tempting to start with. Goddard to me is a DT Gun and I would expect him to knock out several 100+ thi season. Lenny, has some risk after coming off serious injury, but priced at a 77! Well worth the risk, given the opening fixtures.

I don't have much defence of Lake tbh. He's now 30, coming off a injury plauged season, and is unlikely to reach the high 100s again. However, it is hard to ignore his previous year, avg 99.7 and cracking 192 in R9 against the Roos. Priced as a 58, I think he should be capable of 80s if he stays fit. Might work as a cash cow, might be my last years Callan Ward, but more likely to be my last years Everitt! Still very 50-50 on him.

In relation to Walsh, Longmire said that Walsh and Sam Reid will be Sydneys main forward targets in 2012. It looks likely that Walsh will be set to fill Bradshaws role as Full Forward to start th season. They have some very nice fixtures and he can defo take a mark. Could have some impressive numbers to start season with and make some cash for you to upgrade later in the year.

Haha, I always look to fill my team with Eagles but with the exception of Cox everyone has burned me. Waters, Masten, LeCras, Gaff, Dalziell! Darling did well last year for me though. I try to stay as unbibased as possible when picking DT. That being said, I'm keeping Gaff and Koby Stevens on the watchlist and they are very close to making the team. Still have my fingers crossed for Dalziell, and if he gets game time, he is straight in at his price! Shuey will defo be in my team after the byes.

With the exception of Goddard & GAblett, everybody else is pending their performance in the NAB Cup. You always get a pay out from studying it. Last year Swallow & Stanton covered my decision not to start with Swanny.

Dalziell will probably, and hopefully, never play for the Eagles again. An absolute spud of the highest order and should be delisted.

Koby Stevens is the one to watch.

Where did it go wrong though? I was ecstatic when he was traded to us after that season with the Lions. I thought he was exactly what was needed. I also thought Kerr would come good again and Selwood would step up . Still have a small bit of hope he will come good, but highly doubt he will get the chance again. Yeah, Stevens looks like Shuey Mark 2. Fingers crossed for him, and hoping him and Gaff avoid the sub.

If you mean Scott Selwood then he did step up as an awesome tagger who destroyed Judd more than once. He's not of use in terms of DT but he's fantastic at what he does.

Yep, I meant Scott. I had hoped he would increase his tackles as well as tagging so I could justify having him in my side. However, he falls into the Glass category. Always thought of him as one of the best defeners but an absolute nightmare in DT terms.

Very much on my watch list for the NAB Cup. Looking at Cox as well, hard to beat the consistency he brings.

Just a tip for everyone (Gonzo has gone into a bit already) but you really do have to study the byes in detail this year or zeros will be abundant.

Goddard is a must pick for me, premiums in the defence are thin on the ground and he really is the best around. I'd expect Hayes being back to bring up the averages of all the other best Saints players. Montagna is very much on my radar because of this but will depend on whether I go with Hayes.

Edit - Is Lycett likely to play with NicNat and Cox both there. Very risky choice I would have thought although maybe I'm missing something

Too early to say. I am hoping he will be deployed in the Half Forward line rather than the Foll, as I don't see him being included in the Cox/NicNat competition. The unfortunate thing is he is the only R11 RUC/FWD, just as Hamling is the only R12 RUC/FWD. I was really hoping Petrie would have kept his Dual position, and the rumour that Ryder would have RUC/FWD this year.

LeCras did his ACL yesterday, gone for the season :(

Giles looking impressive for GWS, might be a keeper and a great cheap option in the ruck!

Solid enough draft leaving me 44k to spare -

    Pretty good effort Xavi.

I'm not sure on Shuey, very expensive for a young player but I'll bow to your greater Eagles knowledge. In the ruck I'm either going to go with Cox and Giles or two guns. Don't really see the point of Maric when Giles and possibly even Stephenson will average about the same.

Also I think Zorko is carrying an injury, might be something to keep an eye on over the next couple of weeks.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 40,977 ✭✭✭✭Xavi6

Stephenson is about fourth choice for Geelong but they've had ruck injury problems in the last season or two so he's purely squad filler. Doubt he'll see much game time if any.

Maric is there until I see how Giles settles in to full on AFL matches. If he goes well I'll ditch Maric for a cheaper option and use the funds as a safety net elsewhere. Maric is pretty much a guaranteed starter yet a lot cheaper than players in a similar position (Jamar for example).

Shuey was awesome last season and, even though it was just the NAB Cup, looked strong on Sunday. He'll be the go to guy for the Eagles this year in terms of midfield creativity and will feed well off Priddis and Scott Selwood who will do a lot of the donkey work.

Of course I could be wrong with all that!

Alot of unique picks in there Xavi. It will defo set you apart at the start. I'm hoping to do the same. I'm not sold on Beau at that price, I would be more inclined to take a gamble on Hurn being pushed out onto the wing and kicking more. Shuey I think will be amazing this year. I think him or Sloane will have some big numbers for their price. I'm going to take a gamble on Masten though I think.

After the NAB rounds, Weedon and Howard look to be very good picks at this stage. I think Walsh though is going to be a spud though, so I'm defo not going to take him on.

Would HMac not be a better option in the RUC than Maric at the same price? Will score higher and price will increase to upgrade before the byes?

I'm guessing you have an idea of how you are going to upgrade at the start, or are you going to take the week hit in R11, and take R12? Or are you planning for the byes?
