Upgrading my pro lite bracciano wheelset and I have a few different sets at different price tags in mind.Fulcrum 1,fulcrum zero, mavic sl,mavic cosmic carbone sl or just go ksyrium elite.I know that prices vary but would there be much of a benefit between the cheapest, ksyrium elite at 400euro and the carbone with exalith and tires for 1050euro?Cheers.

Reports on exalith are mixed. AFAIK the only Carbones with Exalith are the SLR which are a lot more than 1050 yoyos.

If you're not bothered by German products winning everything, check out this e-edition of Tour magazine, which has several reports on wheels.

If you loved your bike you'd buy it Lightweights. :pac:

    Ooh, so they are.

    Nice.

TBH the fact that you're calling them a "wheelset" rather than "wheels" suggests your credit card is half way to oblivion already. :pac:

That Tour review suggests that Zipp 101s are an interesting choice. Despite (a) being almost comically expensive for a shallow alloy rim, and (b) being Zipps, the aerodynamics look impressive - the same drag as the Carbone SLR with less weight and no sidewind issues.

Lumen,if you only knew the half of it.Took up road cycling about a year and a half ago and the online spending is scary. If I dont get a parcel from ribble every month,I get cranky.Built up a LOOK 595 in the last couple of weeks and the braccianos arent doing it justice. The wheels would be used for all spins.A friend who races has the older carbones says they are fairly bombproof.Doesnt help that they look the job in all black...:o

Bear in mind that the Exalith coating requires special brake pads according to Mavic, which puts you half way to the sort of inconvenience you get with full carbon rims (which would weigh a lot less).

Wouldnt the braking be better on the mavics compared to full carbon rims? I would be sticking to clinchers and I hear bad stories of heat build up on carbon clinchers from hard breaking

Did you read the Tour link? Page 100, right hand column.

Hah, if there was a wheelset made from marshmallows, it would win the Tour test ... as long as it was German.

Look at the Aero Wheel Test ... und ze winner is ... Lightweight

Frame Tests ... und ze winner is Canyon/Storck/Red Bull

Tyre Tests ... und ze winner is Continental

    @ BDK

FWIW Fulcrum Racing 1 or Zero if you're feeling flush, bombproof, light and look good and have better hubs than Mavic IMO. The Cosmic Carbones weigh a ton by comparison and you'll definitely need a spare low profile front wheel for really windy days like we've been having ... not a good look ... even on a Look :p

I'd be going for rim only and building them here.

€213 + €70 postage, for the rims only, hubs what €150? Maybe a LBS would build them up for < €50.
I presume you would build them here to lessen the chances of getting screwed by customs?

well, do you know what hubs they are?

Chosen hubs afaik, which from doing some very light research (reading weight weenies threads on subject) are copies of Cris King hubs.
Means nothing to me a I've zero experience with this. I was just wondering why you wouldn't have them built up there and sent over?
