How safe would surfing in a library with a free wi fi be if you have financial info on the laptop? Can peole sniff your search and is there anyway to know if they are sniffing. Would you need to be encrypted?

If you are transmitting personal or financial info it could be risky.
Sniffers can capture your traffic and perform a man-in-the-middle attack.
The browser encrypts everything if you use https.
