New Golf - creaking noise from steering

I bought a new mk6 Golf a few weeks ago and only recently noticed that when the wheels are near full lock either side, and when the car is moving, there is a creaking or stretching noise. It's louder on full lock but only happens when the car is moving i.e. parking. It seems more pronouned when it's wet.

I've read other reports from drivers online and it seems this is either a) normal or b) a strut/mount needs to be greased.

(I haven't called the dealer yet as I don't have the time to bring it in to them at the moment, the steering itself is still fine and my experience of dealers is they are useless at troubleshooting and may just end up replacing something that won't fix the noise.)

Any VW techheads here? Has anyone experience this or know what it is?

On full lock that wouldn't be unusual for the power steering system to be noisy, impossible to verbalise really. May or may not be the noise you are hearing.

By any chance, when parking are you parking in a car park with a painted floor?

No this is on tarmac and concrete, normal roads.

True of a hydraulic set up but they use an electric one now (completely feel free). All you really hear is a whirring noise on fast turns while parking.

Have you got the handbrake on when the noise happens? Wouldn't be unusual to hear a little creak like noise when the handbrake isn't on fully.

No the handbrake is definitely not on when this happens. Noise is coming from the front.

    Strut mount bearings?

My '11 GTD does the same thing. Only when very wet. Dealer told me it was normal. Even showed me a tech bulletin from VW stating it was not an issue. I forgot about it until I saw this thread.
