Surgery for fourth nerve palsy?

Right, so I have congenital fourth nerve palsy in my right eye, and possibly a squint as well since if I cover it it drifts off by itself. Now since I've been living with this since birth I'm very used to it and don't even notice it.

Problem is I want to be an air force pilot and double vision is a bar to entry, which I have when my eye drifts off or if I look to the left. It was only discovered a few years ago in a photograph that was taken of me. Went to the optician who sent me on to some specialist in Waterford who told me there was no point in fixing it since it was barely noticeable (considering no doctor ever noticed it before...)

Now it's an issue since it's a bar to pilot entry.

So, has anyone ever had, or know anyone who has had, surgery for fourth nerve palsy? Was it fully corrected and the double vision completely fixed?

    :)

Hi there My wife is an optometrist and she feels your best option is to attend an orthoptist who is a specialist in eye muscle problems. There is a very good woman in the hermitage clinic called Claire Sheehan. We are guessing you are in munster (from your post )so perhaps there is one attached to Waterford hosp. It's a tough one as by correcting it she feels it could cause more ocular problems as you are reawakening ( so to speak ) something which has been latent for so long iykwim
Good luck, really hope an orthoptist can help you
