Schools informally self-assess all the time at an individual teacher and whole school-basis.

Indeed they do. It appears that it's all going to be put on a more formal footing. I'd imagine it will have to be documented, and presented to inspectors when required.

As of this June standardised tests in English Maths (and in Irish schools Gaeilge) must be conducted ,though most schools were doing them anyhow. As part of the literacy and numeracy plans, schools will become more formal in the reporting, which will be done also to the BOM and the DES.

What standardised test is used for Irish?

Drumcondra Gaeilge,we took part in the standardisation recently enough.

Schools must put a three year plan for literacy and numeracy in place. Part of this will be the use of the NCCA reporting templates to report to parents before the end of the school year.

We were informed last week that an Inspector will be visiting our school in September to take us through the process of self evaluation. I presume they're going to get round to all schools in the forthcoming year. More paperwork, more boxes to tick!
