Couldn't think of anywhere else to put this. So I want to buy something on Amazon, the seller accepts PayPal and I don't have a credit card. I saw that I can transfer to my PayPal account via a bank transfer from AIB with a charge of 15! Is there any other bank I can join that doesn't have such a extortionist charge? Thanks
Also if I get this new fangled O2 money card will that work for PayPal?

Try moneybookers, simple, cheap, and very handy. OR go buy a top up visa card - then you can open up a paypal account with it, add credit, and make payments. All info here: www.payzone.ie

    Moneybookers sounds perfect, thanks!

There shouldn't be any charge for transferring money to Paypal from your bank account. Certainly not €15 anyway. Where did you see that?

My mother once got charged €15 for transferring money between her AIB account and PayPal. I don't know if the money was transferred from her bank account to PayPal or vice versa, but she was charged €15 anyway, that was a few years ago though.

OP get a visa debit card, Ulster Bank do them, I have one with them. I had to open a bank account though, so I opened the most basic one.

Never had a problem with it at all.

It's exactly like a visa card (you select visa as the payment card on the payment page) and enter the card details, just like a credit card, but the money has to be in your account to spend.

I regularly transfer money using AIB Internet Banking to my Paypal account, and have been doing so for years, and i have never been charged a single cent.

Yeah I saw on the PayPal site that you can do that it, so I went to transfers on aib online banking and it said something like the charges for converting from euro to dollar and sending to an american bank would charge 15 euro, I don't have a credit card if that means anything to you?

This is how I do it:

I'm taking it that you are registered for Online Banking:

Transfers and Payments / I want to transfer money to another ROI account /

Go to "paypal.ie" / Top Up Account

and enter the details here on the AIB transfer page, which should be:

    Beneficiary name PAYPAL PTE LTD
Bank Bank of America N.A., Dublin

What made you think you had to transfer money to Paypal in the US op?

Unless your Paypal account is American, then there's no change of currency or transfer to an American bank. You transfer to Paypal's account in Ireland, which is with Bank of America Ireland, and is located in Dublin.

I'm pretty new to using it and when I went to the PayPal help page on this I just did what it told me.

So far so good! Thanks for that. I tested it with a fiver so it doesn't matter too much if it messed up, only thing is it was only after I did that that I realised I hadn't verified my account, so will have to wait for a day or two to see if it still processes.

just remember to include your PayPal "Transfer ID" (i forgot this my first time years back :D)
So paypal knows to top up your account.

Also the transfer can take anywhere from 2 to 5 working days to appear in your paypal account.

All of the above makes sense, but the Transfer ID that PayPal generates is 15 characters and the "message to appear on reciever statement" on the AIB dialog only accepts 12 characters. Have others encountered this problem and how did they get around it?
