You should go talk to the principal of a school that has LCVP. I talked to a few principals who all told me that there is often a demand for Irish teachers, and based on that and other factors I made my decision.
You should ask some principals what your employment prospects would be. I'd say forget about CSPE anyway because no principal who hire someone on that basis - they give CSPE to all teachers.

Go to the PAC website. It's all about points, like in the Leaving Cert - so you need to see how many points you have and need. I doubt you'd have enough with an ordinary degree.

THings may be a bit different in DCU (where you can do it part-time). But as far as I know that's a course for current teachers who want to stay working and do it part-time.

    hi Michelle,
there is no point in even looking at the H.DIP/PDE until you check if the teaching council recognises your degree (although from what you have said it is doubtful). Just because a college accepts you for the PDE does not mean the teaching council will accept it.
Also it is very hard to get into and I doubt an ordinary degree with doubtful subjects will suffice. Why would you think social care would cover CSPE anyway? A principal will not hire your purely for an LCA subject.
If you really want to teach have you considered adult ed.?
Have just realised you wrote LCVP not LCA. Again I don't see how a sociall care degree would enable you to teach LCVP?

Maybe look in to teaching in further Ed ? FETAC courses in social care , caring for elderly, Childcare etc are very popular. check the VEC's for jobs teaching adults . Private colleges are always looking for FETAC tutors . Have a google :)
