Why is the GAA known as the GAA and not the CLG?

A bit tangential to the usual stuff you'd get on this board, I presume, but I was just wondering. Lots of bodies in Ireland (CIE, RTE, Bord Na Mona, Coillte) are known by their Irish name. Given the GAA was established on the basis of pretty strong nationalism, it doesn't seem to make sense that it's known as the GAA and not CLG. Does anyone have any idea why?

(Sorry, mods, if this isn't the most appropriate forum. Maybe history and heritage would be better?)

Someone can correct me if I'm wrong, but I think that originally Michael Cusack called the GAA the "Gaelic Athletic Association for the Preservation and Cultivation of National Pastimes", with athletics being a core of the association - then a number of years later, when the administrative power from cycling and athletics was given to a separate body, the name Gaelic Athletic Association stayed.

Maybe it stayed in English so that the English themselves could see what it was - afaik, the organisation pre-dates any of the organisations that are called by their Irish name.
