How to buy US shares?

Id like to learn the best way to buy US shares. I have never done any share dealing in the past.

The AIB share dealing appears easy to use but the charges they apply are very high.

I downloaded the sharewatch demo but seems difficult to use and understand and appears to be purely for currency exchange?

I would only be looking to invest approx. 5K into 2-3 companies. Would I be better off just going to a bank or stockbroker?

Zecco.com easy to sign up with and they do all the us markets. Only issue with them is an intl money transfer can take few days to reach your account
