Toyota Yaris P0340 Problem

Hi guys. Have a 2000 Yaris 1.0 petrol here which is running very rough, sluggish and is hard to start. When it does eventually start it barely ticks over or cuts out. I read the codes using an Autel scanner as "P0340-Camshaft Position Sensor Circuit Malfunction"

I got another 2 Camshaft pos sensors second hand (has a magnet on the end and is fitted mid way up nearside of engine) from a breaker but its still the same..
I took lead off battery for an hour to reset PCM

Anyone on here ever fixed this problem? I assume its a break in the wires somewhere..

    Thanks

a worn/stretched timing chain can give you this fault code.

You'll need to check for continuity of the wires to the sensor.

If you clear the fault, does it return on ignition on
or when you try to start?

No it stays off but the car wont start, it just keeps turning over..

Would the chain not be rattly then? There is no rattling noises when the car does eventually start, just barely ticks over like its not getting fuel..

if you cleared the code and it hasn't reappeared i would be looking elsewhere for your problem.are you getting fuel?,is the pump running?

I assumed the code hadn't reappeared as I cant get it started??????

I'm not sure how to check for fuel.. A mechanic mate of mine is coming today to have a look at it.. If its fuel I'll be delighted. I hate these electrical things..

A timing chain issue couldn't give a camshaft sensor circuit fault. If the chain was the problem you would get a camshaft sensor range/performance fault.
