My mum is thinking about starting up her own business. Does anyone know how this will affect me when recruitment opens up? I heard there was something about your spouse cannot have their own business? Does this apply to immediate family members also?

    Thanks in advance :D

Never heard of any such rule and I'm in the job a good while now!

That rule exists in the British Army, or it used to. I know of POPT who own their own businesses so can't see a potential recruits family having one being a problem. The only thing it might mean is that it wherever she sets her business up could become an area where you will be denied being stationed in, possibly.

To my knowledge there would be no issue with someones mother having her own business and its my understanding that the main issue of a spouse with their own business revolves around the question of whether the business sells alcohol.
So if the Other Half owns a licensed premises I think it is policy that the officer does not live on the premises and does not serve in the area the premises is located in.

I'll stand corrected on this if I have it wrong.
