A group of scumbags kicked off my wing mirror during the week and I have to get the whole thing replaced

I was quoted €525 to get it repaired in a Volvo dealership. I was wondering if anyone could recommend an alternative that might be less pricey. Could I order the parts online somewhere or go to an unofficial garage? I'm in Dublin.

    Cheers

That sounds like crazy money to me. Have a google to see if you can find one cheaper - they're very easy to fit. By the way, is the painted part of the old mirror still intact? If so you can probably reuse it, saving the cost of painting the new one.

The V50 and S40 share most parts including door mirrors so you should be able to pick one up in a scrap yard. Just remember that the S40/V50 had different type door mirrors depending on the year of your car. From launch in 2004/2005 to late 2006 models have a different shape mirror to the 2007 to 2010 model, they changed the shape again in 2011.

The original door mirror has the side indicators integrated into them making them expensive to replace new. If it is the SE-LUX model then they are electrically folding. S, SE, Sport and R Design do not fold electrically. Optional and very rare, there is also a door mirror with the blind spot rear view camera built into it.

Try a scrap yard for a second hand one.

Nice one, I'll try a scrap yard - can you recommend anywhere?

It's annoying as the painted back is all intact apart from the little plastic clips on the inside that fix it to the main body of the mirror.

Mirrors for an S40 here ... http://www.micksgarage.ie/body-parts/wing-mirrors-mirror-glass/volvo/s40/. No mention of a V50 though so you'd need to be sure they're the same.

Not too dear. You might get one from a scrappy too. As Anan1 said if you have the painted cover re-use it. I've replace a mirror on an Almera and while a bit fiddly it's not too hard to do.

absolute scum, had it happen to me about 2 years ago. try ebay.co.uk or phone scrap yards here, you might even get it in your exact colour, in which case you would only have to get it fitted. OP I can highly recommend a guy whether you require spray only or spray and fitting, he collects car from you and drops it back and is about half the price of other body shops...

OP says the colour coded back panel of the existing mirror is intact so it will be just a matter of swapping it with the one from a breaker's yard. They are clipped on so it's a straight forward job swapping them.
