Normally read books and intern in places, might try teaching overseas this year
if MA work doesn't get in the way or gets drafted before the summer.

I did a TEFL course after first year, although I'm not using it it was something productive to do.

Depending on your course, I would advise you to look for summer internships in the field you are studying for. This is what I regret not doing more often. They will really help you along in terms of your CV, even if you did the summer programme in your department at the university. I did some work with the Computer Science dept last summer after my final year.

If you're a Computer Science student, I would say this even more so. The added advantage of doing this is it helps you get a little more direction as to where you'd like to go next.

I was thinking the Czech Republic or Poland. I've some friends in both places and
my Czech is getting pretty rusty so it'd be the perfect opportunity for a working holiday.

I think the people who run the courses generally have contacts for where to go.

How much does it cost to do a TEFL course? Is there a student discount?

I'm not sure if there's a student discount, but the price of the course depends on how
many hours or modules that you do. I did the compulsory weekend course and a
Grammar one also. I've taught private lessons in CZ, but just for friends of
friends, no schools yet though. I know some people who teach in schools so I'm
trying to get some work there. If not I'll try for private work.
