Hey everyone i have been thinking of placing an order in ehobbyasia of an airsoft gun since their prices are low due to being beside the manufacturers BUT i need to know will the Irish customs stop the airsoft gun and hold on to it?...... has anyone had this problem or have they ordered successfully?... Thank you:)

Yes, you will be assessed for excise duty. Ehobby do offer a downgrade service, make sure you have a written record of the request & their confirmation that they will downgrade it because if it is examined & found to be over 1joule it will be destroyed and you have no right to appeal

Do it all by email, that way you have a copy & potentially some recourse if the gun is seized and/or destroyed.

This has all been said a hundred times over but it's worth saying again. In most cases, when you import an airsoft gun yourself, pay a fee for it to be downgraded, pay the courier admin fee, pay the duty on it, etc., it won't be much cheaper than you would buy it from an Irish retailer. Unless it's a really weird gun why not support the Irish airsoft industry by buying locally, that way you help keep airsoft going plus you have a local warranty should anything go wrong.

Trust me I have done the maths on this the gun + import duty etc, etc but will the customs seize it for no reason? even if it is under the 1 joule ?... (btw if it doesnt work out i will buy locally, as I have done since i started out) thanks again mate

The Cost of downgrading it is $40 + Customs (23%) + Ireland's "Handling fee" (€6) + Express shipping, it rarely works out cheaper. Also when they downgrade it they put the gearbox back together sloppily. So you'd want to be able to take it apart again to correct the tappet plate, AOE, clean and re lube (Silicon grease etc.) and then maybe lube the contacts if they are dry.

Just buy from the EU mate, far cheaper. (Like if it's a KG or something buy from Taiwangun) = Cheaper shipping, quicker shipping and no import fees. AND they downgrade for free.
