French aviation unions call four day strike

Unions representing French aviation workers have voted for four days of strike action that is expected to disrupt air travel.

Unions representing French aviation workers, including pilots, flight attendants and baggage handlers, have voted for four days of strike action starting on Monday.
The unions are protesting a draft law that will require individual aviation workers to give 48 hours notice before taking strike action.
The bill was approved by France's lower house last week and is being studied in the Senate.
It is unclear how much disruption the strike will cause as unions have not provided details about what form it will take.
Air France has already announced that passengers with tickets booked for 6-9 February can reschedule without charge.

Does anyone know the back story to this? It seems very very militant from the unions on first reading.

French unions tend to be militant. I can't imagine anywhere else they would go on strike over having to give a mere two days strike notice.

Next they'll have to give 48 hours notice before starting a riot, another traditional French method of expressing displeasure with the powers that be.

It's nearly too stereotypical to be true!

Being neutral on this particular dispute, but I do admire how the French stand toghether.

I wonder if we were more like them.....

Would this strike affect flights from northern spain.

I mean does this french strike include air traffic controllers? Therefore flights from northern spain to Ireland could be affected?

In previous French ATC actions flights from Spain have routed out over the Atlantic to avoid French ATC airspace.
