looking at buying a mitsubishi lancer the regular model not the evo

do about 12k miles a year so not looking for diesel

the models I am looking at are the post 05, which would be this model http://cars.donedeal.ie/for-sale/cars/2960049 these would have the 1.6 engine

this also seems like a bargain in my eyes
    http://cars.donedeal.ie/for-sale/cars/2926830

lancers seem to be a bit cheaper than the other japanese cars such as corollas and mazdas and a good bit cheaper than golfs and focus

so price aside whats to know about mitsubishi lancers post 05

don't care if they look a bit drab if the reliability is good

from what I can read they have a timing belt which needs to be replaced every 50k miles

anyone know a bit more about them are there any horror stories associated with them

    thanks

I have a 06 model and love it. bought it last year for 7k with 31k km on clock.
but that 2010 for 9950 is a right bargain.
I had one small problem with mine, the rear bushings had to be replaced but that was due to my housemate driving over humps in the estate too quick in my car. car has given no trouble since bought.
reason i bought was due to the reliability of Mitsubishi cars.
I'm now on 63k km on clock, and timing belt is only starting to squeak a bit in neutral so getting it changed soon.

They're even cheaper and better specced in the UK (the old model). That one you first inked doesn't seem a bargain by any means.

while your at it get him to throw on a fan belt as well..............or just put more tension on the current one

As they depreciate fast in ireland(don't know why ?), I recommend new model as a reliable and much safer version.

http://www.euroncap.com/tests/mitsubishi_lancer_1998/38.aspx (I guess 2006 model still use same chassis with more airbags)

    http://www.euroncap.com/results/mitsubishi/lancer/2009/348.aspx

Only complaints I heard about new model is lack of tyre noise insulation and performance of 1.5 lt engine. I think these are acceptable if you are after reliability.
