Hi guys, just wondering why RTE'jr isn't running any services at the weekend when all kids will be at home from school and need distracting?

It's on during the week and repeats itself terribly but my 3yo still will sit quiet if you need a few mins to yourself or have friends over and need some grown up conversation.

You would think that at the weekend they would run some sort of service,

TV licence prob cost more for that tho

    Posted this recently - http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?p=76864191

They did run RTÉjr over the Chistmas and New Year weekends if I remember correctly, so technically possible.

I beleive that it is to do with prgramme rights - that is money.

On a similar note - is it just my TV I wonder or does the schedule for RTÉ Junior often not match up with what is on? A few times I was looking up programs on it and found that what was on the listing did not match what what appeared to be on air.

If relevant parties (RTENL / RTE ?) really want to drive SAORVIEW awareness and uptake they would get the kids service motoring at weekends - not just aimed at <10s but with a mix of TRTE programmes too.

My 10 year old had to submit a quiz question at school the other day so I suggested he ask "what is the name of Irelands new digital TV service ?" - half the class of 10-12 years age group didnt know the answer.

We all know that pester power works so maybe a good way to drive public awareness

RTÉ's late 2010 plan was to launch RTÉjr's weekend service in May this year depending on finances, we'll see if it happens but would be a positive for Saorview to have a 7 day service for the summer holidays and prior to ASO.

The plan also indicated that TRTÉ (7-15 y.o.) programming would also be carried at the weekends.

It has been quite clear for some time that RTE management have chosen to ignore the existance of Saorview and will not do anything about it until ASO. They have consistently ignored the possibilities of using RTE 2HD to provide HD services when they could have. They have ignored the possibility that they could replace RTE Jr broadcast on RTE 2 SD (and RTE Jr Saorview channel) programmes on RTE 2HD with say a series of, say, HD films. They have failed to mention Saorview when promoting DAB radio or RTE Jr radio.

I am not sure whether it is a deliberate fit of pique at the loss of RTE 3/RTE Plus or whether the new DG is not interested in it when he has so many other matters to deal with, like the huge losses at the station.

I agree that the TRTE age group should be catered for, but a mismash of the two on the one channel would be a disaster imo. RTEjr, like cbeebies, works because it's aimed at particular age groups. An equivalent of CBBC would be better than a mix.

Agree with the age profile differentiation idea - but seeing as we dont have 1 half channel half launched yet it is probably asking a bit much to look for a TRTE variant - dont even think this idea has been mentioned up until now - perhaps TRTE belongs on RTE2HD in any case as some of the propgrams are in HD ?
