On boards in work

Got an email from my boss today saying basically that it is not good practice to be using the company's hardware to access "forums" on the Internet. Should you be participating on forums please refrain from doing so.

Don't know if he actually cares or if he's just going through the motions of procedure.

Anyone else get an email about it from the boss?

Do you know anyone on boards that works in the same place as you?

No boards at work, but what would the civil service do all day.

Just get the wi-fi code and use it on your phone the boss will be none the wiser.

Was the email just sent to you or to everyone in the company?

Just me. He would have got an email from compliance or somewhere that one of his team was using the Internet against policy.

I have always wondered how people who work in offices all day amuse themselves.

Take a few sick days, tell him you are stressed because you feel singled out.

I have a window seat, I get to watch all the lovely ladies passing at lunchtime and I once had a Spanish student staying across the road who would get dressed in the window, oh those were the days, a semi at your desk :D

    :p

You need to start deleting your internet history better. Just click on the favourites tab -> history -> and delete only the non-work stuff.

If you delete everything in the history its obvious that you're spending all day on the net using boards, facebook, etc.

    This does not work.

The software the monitors internet usage runs on the office server and flags offending sites instantly in most cases.

What you should access at work should be governed by company rules and social norms in the office. (And how much you want to keep your job :-))

I get to pretty much read whatever the hell I like, because at the end of the day I get the stuff done, and my role has pretty much progressed to being a consultant on tap and getting my work done. If someone treated me like a child in work for browsing some sites or whatever, I would just move on. I learned most of what I know from reading and engaging with other people. Not grinding.

I know of a forum that gave itself an additional name that looked like a marketing site so that if posters used it then the IT Stazi would think it was a business site for research etc

Time for OP to get a fancy smartfone, they can't block you there :)

Many years ago, boards was blocked in my workplace but recently it was unblocked somehow. Thanks DeVore :D

^well look at that the cheeky sod he is on boards.

Think ye have problems I just hope social welfare doesn't find out I spend 20 euro of hard skimmed taxpayers money/sweat/tears on a months (crappy) mobile broadband here in rural Monaghan.

Being caught on boards at work is bad,
but being caught enjoying yourself on the dole is disastrous.
