Failed NCT high emissions

    Hi,
    I have a 2001 1.6 Ford Focus

I just put it through the NCT and it failed in emissions.

    The details are

    Engine temp 90 degrees

Low idle 710rpm CO3.76 vol limit says above 0.50

HC 2695 PM LIMIT says above 0 ppm

    High idle 3220 rpm

Lambda 0.92 limit says not between 0.95 and 1.09

    Co2 3.53 vol limit says above 0.30

HC 587ppm limit says above 200 ppm

It failed on all of that. Does anyone have any idea what could be wrong?

Someone said put some of that stuff in the petrol to bring emissions down but I assume it couldn't make that huge of a difference.

One thing I thought it could be is that when I was checking the car today I found it had no Oil, I filled it up, but over the last few weeks the car has been a bit shakes, that could have been from the oil missing? Could that be the cause of the emissions

    Brought it to a garage.

They said needs a new Catalytic Converter, it has a crack in a pipe (somewhere up the front) and that two rear pipes are overly rusted and should be replaced.

Its costing my 380, not as bad as it could have been.

Shame, high octane stuff in the tank makes emissions really low. Dgt on here got a fiesta I had with its NCT sheet, he dropped some stuff in and the emissions were noticeably lower when he tested it.

Still though, better to keep the car running properly than just trick it past the NCT.

Have you had your timing belt done since the last NCT?

Not that I am aware of, I only bought it in October

Had the same issue with my 1.6 A4. Tried additives, no-effect.
Got the converter done and the emissions were so low daisies were coming out the exhaust:-P
