How to tighten these brakes?

    Hi Guys,
    Dug out my bro's old mtb.
    Its a great ol go-er but the brakes are very loose

    Any advice on how to tighten them?

    They're cantilever brakes.

    do you see in the last picture there is a nut on top of the 'v' section of cable!!
    Release that nut slowly and move it up towrds the bars.
    Its easier said then done.
    By the look of the bike I would buy new cables or bring it to lbs and let them do it for a few quid.
    Getting those brakes 'squared' can be a bitch.

    Twist the barrel adjusters on the brake levers anti clockwise to tighten.
    You might need a pliers they look seized.

    Just tightened it up with a vice grips - works great!
