I see a lot of people on boards are able to post screenshot images from their Android phones.

How do you do this? Is there an app/software you have to download? Thanks.

Depends on the phone you have.

Some phone come with it built in, others don't have it at all.

All custom ROMs have it built in.

    Different phones have different options.

What make / model have you got.

On my HTC it's hold the power button and press the home button at the same time.
On my tablet it's hold the volume down button and press the power button.

I think if you have an OS version later than 2.3.3 you should have the option to take screenshots (I could be wrong there).

there's an app called "screenshot", you can search it in the android market. That was fine, but now my phone just has a screenshot option anyway so I don't need the app.

Screenshot app is the easiest. It should be free to download.

Downloaded and the app will capture screenshots. Except it won't transfer the pics to the laptop via bluetooth, only via Gmail. But I can't upload them either

For example, I tried to attach them to this post, but it comes up with the error 'Invalid file' when I click on the Upload button. I've tried changing the file format on the app from .png to .jpg but still the same.

As far as I was aware you either had to be on android 2.3.4 minimum or have a rooted device, could be wrong but the comments on many of these apps both paid and free would support this.

Maybe I should have started a 'How do I root my phone' thread :)

Because the app was taking the screenshots and I could email them to the laptop, I thought I was onto a winner.
