hi I would really appreciate any advice anyone has to give here, clutch went on my Rav which is being repaired at the moment costing me (580e)
anyway the mechanic has just told me that the flywheel is welded solid and is causing wear on the clutch , it's a 2003 other than that its great , friend of mine is telling me it's trouble from now on just wanted to know has anyone ever heard of this before , if so why was this done and is it just for the scrap heap or should it be fine ?

Welding dual mass flywheels is a bad idea. Buy a solid flywheel and clutch kit and fit it. Some cars don't react well to solid flywheel conversions but we have done a few Rav4s and they are fine with a solid flywheel.

Likelyhood is that the dual mass flywheel failed before and rather then spend money replacing it someone just welded it in place.

Ask your mechanic to equire about aftermarket solid flywheel kits if you want to keep things as cheap as possible.

Thanks george a brand new clutch has just gone in so what would be the next step for me ? would I be mad to chance it or is it bound to go on me again ? how much do you reckon it would set me back ?
