Are m4 parts universal???

Hi all, was thinking of putting together an m4 out of random parts found here on boards and online. Could anyone tell me if i can just mix and match random parts from different manufacturers and have them all fit? i.e. a g and p lower reciever with a king arms upper?thanks in advance for the help and i hope this isnt a rookie question!

to keep it safe i would say no. although a lot of people have built M4's formt he ground up in this way, you'd really need to know which upper fits into which lower, to keep it safe I'd recommend buying a full receiver, most stock tubes and front rails etc are universal where as receivers can vary with design if the AEG has blowback or a different design fr example ICS as far as i remember have a very strange receiver design but it still looks like it should fit onto other receivers
