For those who might be interested, the ITV Player Red Button Service can be viewed here in Ireland
(I'm looking at Rising Damp, right now, on my Humax HDR!)

It is still working on my Humax HDR in this part of (Southern) Ireland. :)
    My ISP is eircom.

By the way, the Red Button Service is not the same as the regular Internet one.
(That may well be locked, cannot check from my IPAD.)

I've heard others are also successfully accessing ITV Player on the Humax Foxsat in the ROI.

Hillel, do you use homeplugs to connect to ethernet port?

I have one of these, which are reported to work for the Humax and Sky anytime, will give it a try later.

Home plugs are inherently dishonest. If tested properly they would fail CE. Newer ones are worse. Run a Cat5e.

You are destroying people's Radio Reception and Comreg can actually force you to remove them if a neighbour complains.

And my Corby trouser press is a right lazy so and so. :D

You can rail against these things Watty and I'm sure you're right, but I imagine Comreg won't act on a macro level and folks (even if made aware of the knock-on effects on radio frequencies) wouldn't alter their behaviour unless there's a cheaper and /or more convenient option.

Cat5e does 1Gbps and is reliable and cheap.

Home plugs are ONLY convenient for the terminally lazy. That doesn't give ANYONE the right to pollute the radio spectrum.

That's more than a touch intolerant tbh.

I doubt any domestic user is claiming the right to do such a thing. As things stand, folks do have a right to purchase and utilise homeplugs - if a consequence of that usage is materially detrimental to radio, mobile or perhaps even emergency services, then surely that should be legislated for.

It is legislated for. Generating the amount of interference that they make in a real install is illegal.

    It's not intolerance. It's a fact.

No new legislation is needed. Yes they are legal to sell and buy. But usage will be deemed illegal if you are reported for interfering with a service. The problem is that most people don't know what is causing the interference.

Plugged an ethernet cable from my eircom modem into my Humax Foxsat and it's working fine for me. Never even considered that this would work so cheers for the heads up.

Software for a PC comes with it. You first plug it in to the PC and run the software program. This allows you to pick the wireless channel that the device will use, and insert your WIFI encryption key. You can check that its working OK by temporarily removing any permanent ethernet cable from your PC (or disabling wireless on a laptop) and this should restore your Internet connectivity.

After that it is simply a matter of plugging it into the RJ45 port at the back of the Humax and into the usb slot beside that, for power.

There is an issue with teh modified firmware, if you have too many additional services running. The box doesn't always start up quickly enough and you have to unplug/plug wireless bridge. The fix is to use the new GUI to disable any services you are not actually using. (This is very straightforward to do.)

Wondering if someone can help me here. I have a Humax Foxsat Freesat HDR. When I press red button on ITV1 it changes picture to ITV1HD. How are you guys accessing the player? When I go to the ITV player on the On Demand menu in the guide it says it is not currently available.

It's on Channel 903 - if you have an ethernet cable connected to the Humax just press the red button and it should work straightaway.

I tried it again now and it worked fine. Had just plugged in the ethernet cable when I tried it the first time so maybe box was configuring itself or something.

    Thanks for the quick response!

That's what I get too so I presume it's to do with it being geo-locked.

With apologies to Tom Jones, it's not unusual.

Unfortunately, as I rarely watch ITV, the player is little more than a curious oddity. BBC iPlayer would be a great resource but alas....

Good to know I'm not the only one ;) guess the only way to get BBC player is through us netfllix or using a proxy, thanks

That's a big bee on Watty's bonnet. He claims that using homeplugs may cause interference in all sorts of scenarios and that the sky will fall ( he'll kill me for this). I have homeplugs for the past 6 yrs and never had an interference issue. In fact they are miles ahead of wifi, in my gaff anyway.

I think Watty's issues with homeplugs is that they can cause RFI to other users.
Even standard wifi can cause interference. Whenever we bring the laptop into the kitchen it causes interference on FM radio, and much tweaking the aerial / tuner is required to minimize the effect. El cheapo homeplugs (and most of them are) can scatter interference over a wide area. If your nearest neighbor is 50 - 100 meters away, then no problem, but if you're in a built up area then then there is the potential for this problem to arise. Having said all that I'm in the process of setting up video streaming myself ATM, and if the Airtunes Express as a wireless bridge doesn't cut it, then I will consider using Homeplugs.
