Are you looking for training on a particular platform, say Rockwell or Siemens?

mech eng and manufacturing in cit both cover plcs and scada, but not in real great detail. fas do a full time plc course which is supposed to be good and would probably prepare you for industry better than any of the college courses

Best of luck in finding a course that suits.
I think it depend on what field you get into there is such a big spread in PLC's in operation. From my experience in Water and waste water its common that there is a separate guy for PLC programming and a different skill set for SCADA .Some of the PLC programmers never up skilled to do both they were in such demand. The SCADA systems that are common in the industry are
    Intouch
    Iconics
    Zenon
    Ignition

Have a look at this hope it might help:

    http://www.wonderware.ie/training/

A lot of them issue the software free with 60 mins runtime.

    Some do free web seminars.

    Cheers

I agree, I was trained on Iconics SCADA a few years ago and we had a different chap writing the ladder logic. Lader logic was designed for electricians but the SCADA is more for IT people. They are very different.

I used Iconics with minimal training and a good bit reading I could do anything I wanted after a few weeks. It is very user friendly.

I work as a controls engineer and have experience in Telemecanique, Rockwell and Siemems PLCs using PL7, RSLogix and S7 software respectively.

On the SCADA/HMI side of things I've used Wonderware Intouch, RSView, FactoryTalk and WinCC.

Out of all of those I'd recommend a Rockwell course in RSLogix and RSView if you can find one. That platform is widely used in industry and is quite simple to pick up quickly.

I'd definitely recommend doing PLCs and Scada together as there really are two sides of the same coin and worth the effort.

IT Sligo run some good part time / evening / online courses including: Certificate in Automation & Instrumentation or B Eng in Mechatronics.

    Check out their website.

    Best of luck!
