This argument may seem a bit petty. But I booked a holiday with 1800hotels about 2 years ago before they went belly up. €1,200 on a debit card -gone. Today by chance i googled them and there's the website, up and running - same original logo intact and everything!

Does anyone here have any legal insight into this? It seems like a right kick in the teeth to me!

...please no lectures on my method of payment and whatnot.

You'll probably find the name was bought from the liquidator and it is in fact a completely different company behind it.

Yup. The liquidator's business is to realise the assets of the defunct company for as much as he can, to maximise the amount available for creditors. If he can sell the brand name, logo, trademarks, etc, he will. Whoever buys them can use them, and does not thereby become responsible for the debts of the previous owner.

1800hotels is a business name (you can search for it on www.cro.ie). The company which is trading under that name is Club Travel Ltd. (according to 1800hotels website). So as said above, some other entity is now trading under the name '1800hotels', but not the company which did so and was liquidated.

    Thanks for the replies.

I now realise its common but all the same I wouldn't go near the 1800hotels brand again because of bad history....

    Funny really!
