I began thinking about something today. (i think it was today, i haven't slept in about 60 hours).
At first i thought it a triviality, but the more attention i paid to it, i found that i was stripping the gleaming facade away to reveal a terrifying and seedy underbelly in the Superman mythos.

    First- some facts
    Then- my speculative findings.

    Facts.
In the 1978 Richard Donner movie "Superman" we are introduced to the planet Krypton. The planet is peopled by humanoids identical to the humans of earth, but a much more advanced civilization scientifically.
These Kryptonians don't have a lot of what you'd call diversity in their wardrobe! the scientists (including Supermans birth father) and council elders wear robes of white, offset by grey, each with their own family insignia.
Civillians wear whites, greys and metallics like silvers and golds.
The military (Zod, Ursa, and Non) wear billowy black pvc uniforms.

The only hint of primary colours we get in our time on this planet is when Jor El wraps his infant son Kal EL (superman) in his baby blankets (blue red and yellow) and rockets him into space, towards earth as his planet explodes.

Superman later creates a costume from these kryptonian materials and proceeds to fight injustice on earth.
    His costume is
    Bright blue,red and yellow.
    Skintight.

I put it to you, that unbeknownst to himself, Superman is wearing his cultures equivalent of a babygrow/romper suit.
AS far as a Kryptonian is concerned, it might as well have little pictures of teddys and cowboys on it.
Even the underwear is on the outside as if to simulate a nappy.

any thoughts that further or disprove my theory are welcome for debate.

    TLDR's also welcome.

I just never understood why he stayed in Smallville the only place on Earth that had lots of Krypton.

He's more than a bird, more than a plane, more than a pretty face beside a train.

But Supergirl wears those colours too.

Superman wears Red and Blue as they are colours of the American flag, his adoptive home and the nation which he finds himself protector of. (Wonderwoman's clothes replicate the American flag because that was the tradition of her people, to dress emissaries in such a fashion).

The yellow symbolises the sun, which is the source of his power.

If you were a bigger nerd you would know this stuff.

No we weren't, it is appears in the very first panel of his very first story in Action Comics #1 in 1938, though not named. It is named and Superman learns of his origins in Superman #61
