    hi everyone
I have taken this year off college as I had my baby in Oct. I applied for OPFP in Nov and Im still waiting for a reply.

I will be resuming my course in sept. Will I still be entitled to to one parent family payment when I go back to college?
Also how long does it take for them to pay the arrears of OPFP once you start receiving payment?
I would really appreciate any advice anyone has im really worried about all this. Thank you.

Yes, you should still be entitled to OPFP. Look at the Operational Guidelines for OPFP http://www.welfare.ie/en/operationalguidelines/pages/onepfp.aspx
You may also qualify for BTEA in September http://www.welfare.ie/EN/Forms/Documents/bte1.pdf

Arrears are usually paid the first week you get the payment, but not always.

If you think you may be entitled to a college grant, dont apply for BTEA. You can be in receipt of OPFP and still qaulify for the grant but if you apply for BTEA, you will be disqaulified from the grant.

However, if you are a full time student and not in receipt of BTEA you can lose your rent allowance and medical card if you have both of those.
You may not have an entitlement to BTEA though as you won't be starting the first year of the course.

The BTEA is better if you can get it as someone else said you would retain rent allowance. You can apply for your college fees to be paid by your local county council.

You should also qualify for the special rate of grant, with the OPFP and the medical card. Also check out the creche in the college. When you have been approved your OPFP, you will receive all the back payments minus any payments from Supplementary welfare allowance.
