Car Service?

Quick question. I got a 03 VW Golf back in December. The car had been serviced in November with an oil change, filter, break pads, and some other bits and pieces. The mechanic that did the car set it for a new service at 54k, and its now 56k and beeping away to get a service.

Is it worth spending money so soon after the last service to get it checked over again?

What was the mileage at the last service?

No idea. Garage didn't sound the most helpful when I called to ask what was done.

Not really. Id like to keep it in good shape and avoid any problems, so I wont neglect it but it just seems a very short period to be spending money on a service.

Break pads will never stop your car.

    Petrol engine.

From looking at some notes attached, there was work done on the car around 44k (fan belt). Fairly sure it was after this the service was done.

If you are in doubt just get it done and make sure to get the book stamped and the service indicator reset. The petrol engines in the Mk4 Golfs do not react well to being left too long between oil changes.

Isn't the VW 1.4 litre due a timing belt change at 60k miles too if it hasn't been done already?

you mean it was set to ask for a service at 54k? meaning it was serviced around 44k then? or was it supposedly serviced at 54k yet its now looking for a service at 56k

Was done at 40k, along with a clutch at 44k and a drive boot at 44k.

I think the service was done around 44k. If I recall, the clutch was fitted before the car was fully serviced. Just checking does the owner recall.

The car was programmed to be serviced then at 54k. The garage who did the last service said if that's what the sticker/car says than it needs a service.

Sure if its done 12k miles, its due. Thats alot of miles since november though.

If you can't come up with even an estimate of how many miles it has done since it's last service then probably best just to get it done now and make sure you have a note of the mileage at this service for future reference.

As others have said though it is a lot of miles to put up in 3 months, can you or the previous owner account for that? I imagine driving 12k in 3 months is not something that is easy to do without having sme memory of it.

    12k in 3 months?

    Thats 1000 miles a week, in a 1.4 Golf?

Pure hell if you ask me, no way would I forget even 1 week of that
